We got to Singapore, and there was a rest stop on the bus - thank goodness! But when we went through customs, we apparently took too long because the bus left without us. Literally, it was not there. So - we found a city bus and went to downtown Singapore, only to find out that there were NO hostels or guesthouses with beds - not even a dorm room with bunkbeds (which we usually wouldn't do). We ended up in the only room we could find for almost $80 USD! It was a pretty crappy room - maybe like a 1 or 2 star hotel, but there was no choice. Lewis was at a pay phone for like 30 minutes, calling every number we had to try to get a place. We decided we're just too frusterated with cities, and Singapore is not as impressive as we had hoped, so we made a reservation for a chalet (translation - shed on the beach with a bathroom in it) at Tioman Island, supposedly one of the most beautiful beaches in Malaysia, and we're outta here.
We have no idea what to expect from the island, and don't know if there will be internet, stores, or what. There are a few resturaunts, so there will be food and water - plus white sandy beaches. What else could we want? We're ready for some R&R!
