After a long day...

On what is known as one of the worst roads to travel ever, it's time to relax with a local brew! Kate and I caught the 6am train from Bangkok to the border, and after our sleepless night managed to nap on the uncomfortable seats for a bit, all the while drawing stares from the Thai locals, because of the weird positions we contorted into in order to find places to rest our heads!
Arriving at the border to Cambodia, the area was rife with scams as we had heard it would be. We had to be insistent and wait a long time for the visa service to give us the visa for $25. The sign is posted saying $20, but for that they said they'd keep our passports for 3 days. As if we would sleep there on the ground. Plus they had the visa stickers right there. They were trying to charge 1000 bhat which is more like $35-$40. After a bit of hard bargaining we won out. We crossed to the dirtiest step-back-in-time road! People were pulling wooden carts on a horrible dirt road! Pictures can hardly describe it!

Across the border we again bargained as hard as we could, but still had to pay $50 for a taxi to Siem Reap. Our driver was super speedy, and we made the trip in 3 hours, but even though small sections are paved now, I can see why before that, it was one of the worst roads in the world. There were holes all along it that were the size of VW bugs, and big rocks everywhere. Driving there was like a video game!

We did arrive safely, and got a beer and then a WONDERFUL foot massage, my best yet this trip!
