Knife Safety 101

Today I was walking to the bus station and saw something that I don't think would ever happen in America. A boy, probably 4-5 years old, sitting on the sidewalk at the entry to his dad's mini mart stand, wielding a butcher knife, trying to cut up a cardboard box. And he wasn't using the best knife safety since he was cutting toward his hand, but he had successfully gotten the other flaps of the box off, and his dad was there, so I didn't think I'd be the meddling American. Seriously, there are even kids driving motorcycles...kids meaning maybe 5th or 6th grade... It's interesting seeing such young kids naturally and fairly capably doing things we wouldn't even consider allowing. I just keep imagining Erica's kindergarteners with butcher knives...
