This is the first time I have ever been anywhere that broadcasts a call to prayer 4 times a day. Malaysia has a large Muslim population, but not exclusively. In Kuala Lumpur we weren't able to hear it, even in little India! It makes for an interesting method of keeping time, and though I have yet to observe many people going to pray at this time on the island, the men did all get up and leave once the call sounded at the boat terminal. it is one of the things that has made me most notice that I was in the minority (even more than the fact that I am not Asian)!
